Spanish municipality offers 75% tax discount to less polluting vehicles

Castellón city council has approved the modification of the Fiscal Regulatory Ordinance for the Tax on Motor Vehicles for 2019, allowing bonuses of 75% of the tax rate to those vehicles labelled with the ZERO and ECO emissions stickers, established by the DGT (General Direction of Transport) within the National Plan for Air Quality and Protection.

The ZERO category includes battery electric vehicles (BEV), range extender electric vehicles (REEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) with a minimum range of 40 kilometres or fuel cell vehicles; while the ECO label includes Autogas and natural gas vehicles, as well as PHEVs with a maximum range of 40 kilometres and non-plug-in hybrid vehicles (HEV).

Mayor Amparo Marco commented about this initiative: “From the city of Castellón we want to contribute to the improvement of environmental quality, favouring the most sustainable and less polluting means of transport.”

These discounts are framed within the new taxation driven by the municipal government. For more information, please check this link.
