Kia Italia and BRC celebrate 25 years of alliance, sold 100,000 LPG vehicles

The collaboration between BRC, subsidiary of Westport Fuel Systems, and Kia Italia has turned 25. The “Silver Wedding” represents a commercial success that has already exceeded more than 100,000 vehicles sold on the Italian market, equipped with LPG technology supplied by Westport Fuel Systems Italia.

Kia has perfectly intercepted the opportunities of the national Autogas market, in which it has a share that exceeds 14% and thanks to which it obtains over a third of the brand’s sales with models such as Picanto, Sportage, Stonic, XCeed, Ceed and Rio. In addition, the alliance plans to expand the ecological LPG technology to hybrid models as well.

“This milestone makes us proud and is a starting point to celebrate what has been done so far with a careful look to the future,” said Giuseppe Bitti, CEO of Kia Italy. “The LPG bi-fuel solution has made the history of Kia in Italy and now, with the era of electrification upon us, we are ready to go further. The challenge will be to bring the LPG system to native hybrid cars, a solution capable of combining the needs of customers looking for cutting-edge technology with a keen eye on operating costs and environmental sustainability.”

Recently, BRC has further expanded the range of direct injection cars that can be converted to Autogas, thanks to the system Sequent Maestro. In addition to Kia, convertible vehicles in Italy also include Citroen, Opel, Volvo, Toyota, Mazda, Lexus, Honda, Skoda, Dacia, Cupra, DS Automobiles, Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Fiat, Jeep, Mercedes, Nissan, Peugeot, Hyundai, Ssangyong and Hyundai.
