Italy: Kia debuts new Niro Tri-Fuel, a full-hybrid LPG car with 1,600km driving range

Kia announced the launch of the Niro Tri-Fuel model in the Italian market. Developed thanks to the historic partnership with Westport Fuel System Italia/BRC on the basis of the HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) engine, with the addition of LPG propulsion, it will further enrich the Niro offer and, according to the manufacturer, it can boast of being “one of the very first tri-fuel vehicles on the market.”

Like the full hybrid version, the Niro Tri-Fuel is powered by the 1.6-litre Smartstream GDI engine, which in this version delivers 90 hp, added to the 43.5 hp of the electric motor, bringing a combined maximum power of 126 hp.

It features a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that ensures maximum relaxation and smoothness in all contexts, aided by the MacPherson strut front suspension and four-link rear suspension.

Thanks to the new LPG hybrid technology, the Niro Tri-Fuel also guarantees significant cost savings and allows to travel approximately 1,600 km in the combined cycle with a full tank of fuel, considering that the petrol tank has a capacity of 42 litres and the LPG tank of 40 litres.

The model comes with a seven-year, 150,000-km warranty, including the LPG portion of the powertrain that is supplied by Westport Fuel System Italia/BRC. Kia estimates customers potentially will save EUR 5,000 in fuel costs.
