Germany experienced major increase in LPG car registrations in 2019
Autogas vehicles have experienced a strong growth in new registrations last year. The German Association of Liquid Gas (DVFG) now considers this is the right scenario for politicians to start paying greater attention to this low-emission alternative fuel in their climate protection strategy.
According to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt or KBA), LPG-powered vehicles saw an increase of 55.6 percent in new registrations in 2019 compared to the previous year. In 2018, the rate of increase compared to 2017 was only 6 percent.
“In 2019, consumers opted for LPG again. Politicians should recognise this reinforcement and the associated potential of alternative fuels to reduce CO2 emissions,” explained Rainer Scharr, Chairman of the DVFG.
“LPG deserves more attention when further developing climate protection measures. For example, the planned expiry of the tax benefit at the end of 2022 should be reconsidered,” he added.
Autogas vehicles in Germany are already saving between 400,000 and 500,000 tonnes of CO2 annually – a valuable contribution that could be further expanded with political support. For more information, please visit this link.
