Autogas conversions gain momentum in Spain

Last year, conversions to LPG grew 25%, reaching 100,000 adaptations, according to the specialised Autogas company Eco Moving. For the Spanish workshop, “this solid increase demonstrates growing confidence in LPG as a viable and attractive option to reduce fuel costs and polluting emissions, thus driving the adoption of this technology in future mobility.”

The company explained that between 2018 and 2023, conversions have registered an average year-over-year growth of 23,72%. “Initially, we saw that the only people who converted their vehicles to LPG were taxi drivers or professional fleet drivers. However, this phenomenon has changed and we are seeing a boom in private users who decide to invest in adapting their car to run on LPG,” commented Emiliano Ceci, Founder of Eco Moving.

The conversion of vehicles to Autogas allows drivers to obtain the ECO label from the Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT), which enables them to circulate in low-emission areas. Furthermore, according to Ceci, “by just traveling 10,000 kilometres during the first year, up to 70% of the conversion cost can be recovered.”

In addition, Eco Moving informed that Autogas car sales increased 75% in 2023, compared to the previous year. With more than 25,000 units sold this year, and a total of 97,500 vehicles circulating on Spanish streets, “LPG is a consolidated reality,” highlighted the company.

“The transition to LPG is easier than ever,” they remarked while recalling that there is an expanding network of 900 Autogas refuelling facilities in Spain, led by suppliers such as Repsol and Cepsa.
