“Athens ring”: Autogas vehicles exempt from traffic restrictions in Greek capital city

A measure aimed at reducing traffic in downtown Athens, by which cars with license plates ending in an odd number can enter the city centre on odd days of the month and those with even numbers on even days, started on 25 October, announced the Infrastructure and Transport Minister Costas Karamanlis.

The operation of the so-called “Athens ring” (daktylios) had been suspended during the COVID pandemic.

However, zero- and low emission vehicles are exempt from congestion restrictions. Electric, Autogas, natural gas and hybrid vehicles, as well as and Euro 6 diesel cars that emit no more than 120g/km of carbon dioxide, will be allowed to enter central Athens any day of the week, regardless of the last number of their licence plates.

With the exemption of zero- and low emission vehicles from the rules, officials are now presenting the congestion zone as the “Athens clean ring”. For more information, please visit this link.
