Beximco Petroleum has received the approval to build 500 Autogas stations and 25 workshops across Sri Lanka. The company has been given the green light from the country’s Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

Beximco will have to sign an agreement with Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation following clearance from the Department of Environment, Department of Explosives, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, and Fire Service and Civil Defence to establish and run LPG operators.

Currently, there are 9,500 Autogas vehicles and 22 LPG stations in Sri Lanka. So this initiative will exceptionally boost the country’s refuelling infrastructure. Road transport in Sri Lanka accounts for about 93% of the land transport and is mainly centred on country’s capital, Colombo.
