The New Mr Clean – Opel’s Corsa on LPG

Opel just introduced the cleanest model of the Corsa lineup. Powerful, economic and more friendly to the environment than its conventionally powered brethren, the new Opel Corsa 1.4 LPG (Autogas) ecoFLEX comes with a factory-fitted Autogas system. The 1.4 litre engine produces 90 hp (60 kW) both on gasoline as on Autogas and is mated to a five-speed manual gear box. Directed particularly at customers focusing on cost of operation, this last addition to the Corsa family is an ideal option in the small car market (B segment), as Autogas customers benefit from various advantages. On one hand, fuel costs can be drastically reduced compared to gasoline due to the lower price of LPG (in Spain, 0.74 €/l, almost 50% savings), on the other hand, the new Corsa LPG starts off at the attractive price of 11,900 € (on the Spanish market with all taxes and promotional discounts included).

Apart from being cost efficient, the new Corsa LPG is more environmentally friendly. This is due to LPG being burned in the four-cylinder engine, already known for its well mannered combustion, working under the Corsa’s rakish hood. With this clean fuel, the new Corsa has a combined consumption of 6,9 l/100km (34 mpg) while emitting 13 % less CO2 than when running on gasonline. NOX-emissions are up to 80% lower.

“With the 1.3 CDTI and the new 1.4 LPG ecoFLEX, we can offer two very economical options in the Corsa range. Once again Opel demonstrates how much we value energy efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions in our range of vehicles”, says Peter-Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales and After Sales Opel Group. “But these two models not only attract the interest of cost-minded customers. They offer much more than is usually found in this market segment. Great comfort and a spacious interior, cutting edge connectivity and driving aids”.

Part of the cost advantages come through the lowered excise on Autogas duty found in many European countries. This lowered excise duty is justified by the many benefits of driving on LPG. One clear advantage the Corsa has over any conversion is, that like all other Autogas models from Opel, it comes with the LPG system already factory fitted. Apart from the known advantages of seamless switchover between fuels and the enhanced range of about 1.200 km using the two fuel tanks, the system is covered by a full warranty from Opel.

The toridal (donut-shaped) fuel tank in the space where the spare wheel would normally sit makes the bi-fuel car possible without giving up any boot space.

The modern driving aids, heated steering wheel, parking assistant and award-winning multi media system with IntelliLink and a 7″ touch-screen display finish off this attractive package.
