Spain: Galicia increases incentives to acquire adapted, low-emission taxis
The Minister of Infrastructure and Mobility Ethel Vázquez announced the increase of EUR 400,000 in aid to purchase adapted, low-emission or electric taxis, totalling EUR 900,000 this year. The incentives amount to EUR 10,000 in the case of Eurotaxis, EUR 6,000 for the purchase of zero-emission vehicles and EUR 4,000 for low-emission taxis (including units powered by Autogas).
Vázquez, together with the General Director of Mobility Ignacio Maestro, made the announcement during a meeting held with the representatives of the Provincial Taxi Association of Ourense, headed by its President Francisco Javier Álvarez. The President of the Galician Taxi Self-Employed Federation Manuel Sánchez Quindimil and representatives of this entity also participated.
The minister framed this initiative in the sector’s commitment to “modernise and adapt to new times, supported by the Xunta.” The objective, she said, is to include the taxi sector in the “active commitment to fight against climate change, through less polluting vehicles,” and to encourage social inclusion, financing the acquisition of adapted taxis to meet the travel demand of people with special mobility needs.
As detailed by the head of Infrastructure and Mobility of the Xunta, this aid amounts to EUR 6,000 for zero-emission taxis (electric) and EUR 4,000 in the case of low-emission vehicles, including hybrid, LPG and CNG propulsion.
The official highlighted that this is expanding the call published in November 2022, for an amount of EUR 500,000, to which more than 350 applications were submitted and which allowed almost 90 applications to be attended to, exhausting the credit. She added that, to go further, this extension of credit is being made, adding a total of EUR 900,000 in aid to adapted, zero and low-emission taxis this year.
