North Caroline became the latest US state to offer renewable liquid gas for transport
The city of Raleigh announced is moving a portion of its fleet to run on renewable Autogas. Nearly half of the city’s total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from transportation, and reducing vehicle emissions is a critical part of their climate action strategy. Raleigh is mapping out a “clean transportation” future that involves transitioning from fossil fuels to cleaner alternatives like electric vehicles and renewable LPG.
According to the city, this event “was an excellent opportunity for us to highlight some of the vehicles that use renewable propane and the other electric and clean energy vehicles in our fleet.”
Of Raleigh’s 4,600 vehicles, 85% run on some type of alternative energy, city leaders noted. Blossman Gas, PERC, the Southeast Propane Alliance and Triangle Clean Cities helped to sponsor the celebration.
Vehicle Fleet Services, the Office of Sustainability, and Raleigh Arts also recently unveiled a “Clean Energy Mural” to raise awareness about the city’s clean energy transition.
Other state that start offering renewable Autogas during 2023 is Connecticut. Last September, the Pride Travel Center in Hartford took delivery of the first gallons of renewable LPG in the state.
This site, which is known for being the first in the U.S. to house multiple alternative energy options, received the gallons during a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Capitol Clean Cities of Connecticut, Hocon Gas, Ray Energy, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) and the Propane Gas Association of New England.
