New Autogas pilot project launches in northern Nigeria

Asiko Power Limited has put into operation an Autogas adoption and utilisation trial in the city of Kano in a bid to accelerate energy transition in the country and deepen LPG penetration.

To kickstart the Autogas trial programme, the company has converted two minibuses and five Keke Napep vehicles to run on LPG and built a filling station to facilitate convenient refuelling for the converted vehicles.

The company explained that the objective of this venture is twofold. First, the Autogas trial seeks to evaluate the tangible outcomes and impacts of the conversion study, while they also “hope to be a driving force behind the increased adoption of Autogas-powered vehicles throughout the community, state and country,” they stated.

In his opening remarks, the Managing Director of Asiko Energy Felix Ekundayo noted that the trial plans to “demonstrate to the people of Kano state that tricycles, cars, minibuses and other vehicle operators that are feeling the debilitating effects of subsidy removal on petrol that there is an alternative”.

“This Autogas project lends to our profound commitment to building a network of clean energy solutions to drive sustainable development across Nigeria and West Africa,” concluded Asiko.
