Malta unveils scheme with financial incentives for Autogas

Transport Malta, in collaboration with the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, together with Parliamentary Secretariat responsible for EU Funds launched the largest package of transport financial incentives in the form of grants to promote greener and sustainable mobility. A total of around €20 million in grants will be made available to the general public in 2022.

For Autogas, the budgeted funds amount to €60,000. This measure intends to further promote the use of LPG as fuel for vehicles, and is aimed at: persons residing in Malta and undertakings established in Malta. These are the grant amounts for each category:

  • €400 when a petrol-powered Category M1 or N1 vehicle is retrofitted to operate on LPG or petrol;
  • €900 when a diesel-powered Category M1 or N1 vehicle is retrofitted to operate with LPG and diesel simultaneously;
  • €1,000 when a diesel-powered Category M2 or N2 vehicle is retrofitted to operate with LPG and diesel simultaneously;
  • €1,500 when a diesel-powered Category M3 or N3 vehicle is retrofitted to operate with LPG and diesel simultaneously.

Drivers who have modified their vehicle to run on Autogas in compliance with the requirements during the past years and have not received a grant from the applicable grant schemes in the past, may still apply for the grant. For more information, please check here.
