Green Sundays in Rome, only clean fuel vehicles allowed

The first of Roma’s four “eco-friendly Sundays” events for the winter season 2020-2021 started on 15 November. This is a measure to limit pollution and raise awareness among citizens on the issue of air quality and environmental sustainability. There will be three more green Sundays until March 2021.

The initiative provides for a total ban on circulation for all motor vehicles in the “Green Belt” area, a limited traffic zone in Rome. The traffic block will be in force from 7.30am to 12.30pm and from 4.30pm to 8.30pm, even for vehicles with access and circulation permits in restricted traffic areas.

However, certain vehicles are exempted from traffic blocking depending on their categories or type of engine and fuel. In the last case, alternative fuel vehicles, including units powered by Autogas and natural gas (bi-fuel or dedicated), as well as electrics and hybrids, are allowed to circulate.

Intensification of checks to ascertain compliance with the regulations on the prohibition of outdoor combustion is envisaged throughout the municipal area. For more information, please check this link.
